FAQ
All questionsVisiting season for the Similan Islands: from mid-October to mid-May, during the dry season with good weather and calm seas. The islands are closed during the monsoon season to help the ecosystem recover. The Similan Islands open around October 15–16 and close on May 15.
The best time to visit the Similan Islands is from mid-October to May, when the sea is calm, the water is crystal clear, and conditions are perfect for snorkeling and boat trips.
The most ideal period is from November to April, with very calm seas, excellent underwater visibility, and stable weather with little to no rain.
During the monsoon season (May–October), the islands are closed to visitors due to strong winds and rough seas, as they are part of a protected national park.
The Similan Islands are a national park, so strict rules apply to protect the environment and marine ecosystem.
Main restrictions include:
- The islands are open only during the high season, usually from mid-October to mid-May
- The park is closed during the monsoon season (May–October)
- Littering and single-use plastics are strictly prohibited
- Touching corals and marine life is not allowed
- Feeding fish and animals is forbidden
- Overnight stays are limited or restricted on certain islands
- Drone use requires special permission from the national park authorities
Visitors must also follow beach and snorkeling rules, and violations may result in fines.
The Similan Islands tour usually starts very early in the morning, around 04:30 to 06:00 AM, depending on your hotel location and pick-up point. This is due to the long transfer to the pier and the speedboat journey to the islands.
If you book an early departure tour, hotel pick-up in Phuket can be as early as 03:30 AM, allowing guests to reach the islands in the morning and spend the maximum time there.
Most group tours pick up guests from hotels in Phuket or Khao Lak early in the morning so they can arrive at the Similan Islands by mid-morning and begin the excursion program.
