Bai Sao Beach, Phu Quoc - White Sand & Turquoise Water

Bai Sao Beach on Phu Quoc Island features soft white sand, clear turquoise water, swaying palms and a calm sea. One of Vietnam’s top beaches.

Bai Sao Beach is one of the most famous beaches on Phu Quoc Island, where soft white sand squeaks under your feet and the morning light reflects off the turquoise water. Located on the southeastern coast of the island, it is often featured on postcards thanks to its powdery sand, crystal-clear sea, and peaceful atmosphere.

The name “Sao” means “Star.” In the past, sea stars could often be seen here, which inspired the name. Unlike the nearby Bai Khem, Bai Sao was never a fully closed military zone, although it is close to areas connected to the Vietnam War. It used to be a quiet fishing village, but with the rise of tourism in the 2000s, it became one of the most visited beaches on the island.

Today, Bai Sao is often called the most beautiful beach on Phu Quoc — and for good reason:

— The sand here is among the softest on the island.
— The water is usually calmer than on the western coast.
— The beach is naturally sheltered from strong winds.
— Scenic palm trees lean toward the sea.
— Beach cafés and sunbeds are available.
— Kayak and SUP rentals are offered.
— Plenty of photo spots like swings and ocean ladders.

Sometimes litter can be found here, which is one downside of its popularity.

Useful tips:

— Best time to visit: November to April.
— Come in the morning for fewer crowds and cleaner conditions.
— Keep an eye on your belongings, as in any tourist area.

Tip: Walk a little away from the main area to find quieter and more secluded spots.

Bai Sao Beach is included in several Phu Quoc island tours and is definitely a must-visit destination.
